11 May Zcash Anonymity Weakened by Certain Behaviors, Experts Say
Four researchers recently published in a paper that patterns in certain kinds of zcash transactions can weaken the cryptocurrency’s anonymity.
The researchers found that Zcash, which is one of the most popular privacy coins, lose their anonymity when moved from “unshielded” to “shielded” and back to “unshielded” addresses. Unshielded T-addresses are publicly visible on the blockchain while Z-addresses are invisible.
The researchers had already informed Zcash founders Zooko Wilcox and marketing director Josh Swihart who invited them to jointly investigate the issues. Wilcox and Swihart also revealed that some anonymity issues detailed in the paper will be addressed in Zcash’s Sapling hard fork.
