29 Aug Yahoo Still Scanning Emails for Data to Sell to Third Parties
The Wall Street Journal said this week that Yahoo still scans its users’ emails and sells whatever data it collects to advertisers.
While Oath, Yahoo’s parent company, confirmed the practice, it clarified that only promotional emails from retailers are scanned and users are given the choice to opt-out.
The company further argued that email is an expensive service and users cannot expect it to be a free service. However, Yahoo’s premium email, which costs $3.49 a month, is still subject to the same scanning unless the user decides to opt out. Even then, it is said that the option to do so has been hidden away in the Ad Interest Manager page.
