27 Oct WhatsApp to Face EU Taskforce for Sharing Data with Facebook
Facebook’s WhatsApp is expected to clash with EU’s data regulator once more for sharing user data with its parent company. The chat app had already been warned for the same issue around a year ago.
The pan-European data regulator has created a task force called the Article 29 Working Party (WP29) to implement “a clear and comprehensive resolution” in compliance with EU law. The regulator accused the app of adopting a “take it, or leave it” approach on their privacy policy, saying that pre-ticked boxes do not amount to unambiguous consent.
WP29 additionally said that WhatsApp’s notice to EU users last August did not sufficiently address issues of non-compliance with EU’s data protection laws.
