Websites Take Last Minute Measures for GDPR Compliance

Thousands of sites this week are reportedly taking last minute measures to comply with the EU’s new privacy rules by shutting down their activities, forcing users to agree to new terms of service, and even completely blocking European users.

Users have also noticed the flood of GDPR emails asking for their consent and urging them to remain on the mailing list. However, the UK’s Information Commissioner’s Office says such emails are not necessary to comply with the law.

Experts also said that taking the extreme option of blocking EU-based users may not be enough to insulate companies from the GDPR as the law applies to the data of European citizens wherever they may be located.
