23 Jan Washington State Lawmakers Push for New Privacy Law
Washington state Sen. Reuven Carlyle recently proposed a new bill that will seek to give consumers more control over the data organizations such as data brokers collect from them.
Carlyle says that his bill will require companies to allow consumers to correct inaccurate information, delete their personal data, and opt not to have their data used in direct marketing. The bill will set new rules on companies developing facial recognition software, such as Amazon and Microsoft.
The new rules will also empower the state attorney general to penalize violators up to $2,500-$7,500 per violation.
