VTech Security Flaws Persists Even After Hefty Fine

Researchers from Pen Test Partners recently revealed that the security issues that they have discovered in VTech’s InnoTab are still present, even after the company had already been fined $650,000 by the US Federal Trade Commission.

Pen Test Partners found in 2015 that it was possible to steal data from the InnoTab tablet. However, even after VTech vowed to comply to privacy and security requirements in the Children’s Online Privacy Protection Act (COPPA) and the FTC Act, the researchers found that it is still possible to lift data from a newly bought InnoTab device using the same test procedure they did in 2015.

In response, VTech said that cyber attacks on their databases should not be compared with the physical dismantling of their products which, according to the company, are fundamentally different acts.
