Verizon to Continue Sharing of Subscriber Data

Verizon clarified this week that it still intends to share subscriber data for advertising purposes, despite reports that its new CEO Hans Vestberg, intends to stop the practice of feeding subscriber data into its media unit.

Verizon subscribers will continue to get rewards in exchange for sharing their data, including browsing history and other apps downloaded on their phone.

While it was noted that only a small number of subscribers have opted into the program, Verizon Media also takes in data from other sources, including 400 million records pulled from Yahoo and AOL login data, device-level data from Flurry’s SDK footprint, consumption data from its content properties (Yahoo News, Yahoo Finance, Yahoo Sports, TechCrunch, Engadget, et al.) and search data from Yahoo Bing.
