Use of Aadhaar Verification at Airports Raises Privacy Concerns

Recent incidents at Indian airports involving passenger’s Aadhaar’s numbers had brought to light the need for stricter regulations on data privacy.

Several Jet Airways passengers have complained that the airlines printed their Aadhaar numbers on their boarding passes without even informing them.

Publishing Aadhaar numbers is considered illegal under the Aadhaar Act of 2016. Privacy advocates have also pointed out that the absence of a strong data protection law has allowed corporations to freely keep biometrics and Aadhaar information on their private servers.
