16 Aug US DOJ Demands Anti-Trump Website Visitor Details, Privacy Advocates Balk
The US Department of Justice has issued a warrant for data on visitors of disruptj20.org, an anti-Trump website.
Hosted by DreamHost, the website was created for organizing protests against the Trump administration. The DOJ warrant seeks to compel the web hosting company to turn over all information about the website, including 1.3 million visitor IP addresses, email content, contact information and photos which, according to DreamHost, could be used to identify individuals.
DreamHost General Counsel Chris Ghazarian says that while the company receives numerous requests for customer information every year, the request related to disruptj20.org is highly untargeted and has the potential to chill the right of free speech.
