US Cyber Advisor Calls Australia’s Stance on Encryption “Reckless”

Ben Flatgard, Obama’s director for Cybersecurity Policy on the US National Security Council recently said in an interview that Australia’s demand for more access and control over its citizens’ private data and communications ‘sounds a lot like China’.

He added that the country’s stance on encryption was ‘reckless policy’, and called PM Malcolm Turnbull’s statement on the matter a ‘pretty amazing suggestion’.

The Prime Minister had previously been criticized by experts for showing lack of understanding on end-to-end encryption when he said “The laws of mathematics are very commendable, but the only law that applies in Australia is the law of Australia.”
