UK’s Carphone Warehouse Fined £400,000 for Data Breach

The UK’s Information Commissioner’s Office (ICO) has reportedly fined electronics retailer Carphone Warehouse 400,000 pounds ($539,400) for a data breach which exposed the personal data of approximately 3 million customers.

According to Information Commissioner Elizabeth Denham, the Dixons Carphone-owned phone seller neglected to update its systems and perform routine testing, which was concerning since a company as well-established should have already covered all the rudimentary, commonplace measures required to prevent systemic failures.

Denham added that the amount was the largest fine that ICO has issued to date.
