UC Browser May Get Banned in India for Data Leak

The Indian government is currently scrutinizing Alibaba’s UC browser for allegedly sending back user data to servers in China.

A senior IT official said that several users had reported that the browser retains control of the device’s DNS, even if the app had already been uninstalled and browsing data has been cleaned. He added that the browser will be banned in the country if the allegations turn out to be true.

UC Web responded that their company takes security and privacy seriously and always seeks to comply with local regulations. They also emphasized that it is often standard practice for firms to collect user information and data after getting the user’s consent.
