Uber Execs Summoned to Manila by PH Privacy Commission

Representatives from Uber have been summoned by The National Privacy Commission (NPC) on the matter of the recently revealed data breach that the company had allegedly concealed since 2016.

The breach is said to have affected the personal information of 57 million drivers and passengers around the world, including those in the Philippines. Privacy Commissioner Raymund Enriquez Liboro clarified last Wednesday that it is summoning Uber since it is considered a Personal Information Controller which should comply with Philippine data privacy and protection laws.

Liboro added that the meeting will serve as compliance to the “formal breach notification procedure” required under RA 10173 or the Data Privacy Act of 2012.
