20 Jul TRAI Chairman Says Devices, Apps Must Follow Same Rules as Telcos
TRAI chairman RS Sharma recently said in an interview that they have made a number of recommendations to the government on ways to monitor and ensure data privacy, even on entities outside of the regulator’s jurisdiction.
The chairman also explained that apps, smartphones, browsers and other players in the ecosystem were faucets to the telecom pipe that accesses the internet and therefore should be subject to the same rules as telcos.
He added that there was a need to make the recommendations since the Justice BN Srikrishna committee was already looking into data protection issues.
