06 Jun Top Lawmaker Asks if Facebook Shared Data with ZTE, Huawei
Following reports of Facebook’s data sharing agreements with a number of device manufacturers, Sen. Mark R. Warner questioned this week whether the social media giant also gave access to Chinese telecommunications firms ZTE and Huawei which are regarded by US intelligence as beholden to the Chinese government.
On the lack of response from Facebook, the senator said that he is disappointed that he has not gotten a straight answer. Warner stressed that a connection between the Chinese companies and Facebook would be dangerous, and it would be surprising to him if the social network had excluded them.
Facebook VP Ime Archibong had already said last Monday that the company’s partnership with device manufacturers predates app stores and it was a way to give consumers access to Facebook on whatever device or operating system.
