Telegram Patches IP Leak Bug on Desktop Client

Telegram announced this week that it has fixed a bug on their messaging client for desktop that could leak the user’s IP address under certain circumstances.

The flaw was found by an Indian vulnerability hunter named Dhiraj Mishra who alerted ZDNet that the bug shows up during voice calls on Telegram desktop clients running on Windows, Mac, and Linux. It was explained that a peer-to-peer connection, which is used for Telegram’s voice calling feature, is not private by design and will directly expose the IP address of participants with each other.

The Telegram team advises users to update their version to Desktop v1.4.0 and v1.3.17 beta.
