03 Oct Tech Industry Unites to Oppose Australia’s Anti-Encryption Bill
A “mega” group made up of various industry, technology, and human rights organizations is calling on Canberra to ditch its “encryption-busting” legislation.
The Bill, which is already before the Parliamentary Joint Committee on Intelligence and Security, will only be available for public consultation within a short three-week window, with submissions closing on October 12 and a hearing set on the 19th.
However, the Alliance for a Safe and Secure Internet plans to oppose the legislation which its spokesperson John Stanton calls “disturbing” and poses a real threat to cybersecurity and privacy rights of Australians.
