04 May Tech Giants Group Turns Up Criticism on Backdoors
A coalition of Silicon Valley giants including Apple, Facebook, Google, Microsoft, Verizon and Oath slammed anew government requests for weaker encryption in a recent statement.
The group says that new proposals that attempt to engineer vulnerabilities into devices and services all suffer from concerns that security researchers have identified even before. They also reiterated that the weakening of security and privacy provided by encryption is not the answer.
The tech giants had been accused of aiding the government in its domestic and international spying efforts. However, the companies denied the claim and said that any collection of data had been done under a secret court order or without them knowing.
