Symantec: Poor Security, Privacy Laws Can Lead to Vulnerabilities

Cybersecurity giant Symantec recently warned that poorly crafted cybersecurity and privacy regulations could lead to new vulnerabilities.

In a recent interview, Symantec Managing Director Gaurav Agarwal said that such rules could prove counterproductive, which is why there are certain aspects that need to be taken care of when they are framed and implemented. For example, there needs to be clarity around how the data is collected, handled, processed and discarded, he added.

Agarwal also said that the EU’s GDPR will likely be a precursor to various security and privacy initiatives worldwide.
