09 Jun Survey: Privacy Measures of Canadian Businesses Inadequate
According to a government-commissioned survey this week, most Canadian businesses still fall short in terms of understanding and implementing privacy laws.
The survey also revealed that around 94% of the companies collect basic contact information like names, phone numbers and email addresses from their customers. Around 29% collect opinions, evaluations, and comments, business and financial information such as credit card numbers by 25%, while 21% collect identity documents such as social insurance numbers. 15% even tracked purchasing habits.
Despite this, barely half of the companies interviewed said that they had a privacy policy that explained how they collect and use their customer’s personal information.
