05 Dec Statistics Canada Delays Collection of Banking Records
Statistics Canada recently wrote to Canadian banks and said that it will not be collecting the banking details of around 500,000 Canadian households for the time being.
According to Statistics Canada spokesperson Peter Frayne, they will also be suspending the collection of personal financial data from credit bureau agency TransUnion.
The move came after privacy concerns had been raised over plans of the national statistics agency to obtain an unprecedented level of access to the personal financial information of Canadians, which prompted the Privacy Commissioner to launch an investigation.
