23 Mar Spam Messages Bill to be Taken Up by House Plenary
Earlier this week, the House Committee on Information and Communications Technology (ICT) endorsed the establishment of the “No Calls and No Text Registration” System for plenary approval.
ICT Chairman Victor A. Yap said that House Bill No. 7321 seeks to limit the number of marketing-related calls and texts sent to a single phone number. Those who would like to be excluded from receiving such calls or texts can register their numbers for a fee to the No Calls and No Text Registration System by providing their government-issued ID, proof of exclusive ownership over a particular phone number. The National Privacy Commission (NPC) will be responsible for keeping the information of registered individuals confidential.
The bill will also penalize violators with a fine ranging from Php 50,000 up to 100,000 per violation.
