11 Oct Spain’s New Privacy Law Addresses Management of Digital Legacy for Deceased Users
Spain is reportedly including new provisions in its Personal Data Protection and Guaranteed Digital Rights law which will recognize the user’s right to leave instructions regarding his digital legacy.
However, tech lawyer Paloma Llaneza argues that handing a deceased person’s online legacy to someone else may give rise to privacy issues. She explains that heirs may actually be the least-appropriate people to handle such information.
Llaneza also added that that Spanish inheritance laws may address the person’s estate and economic rights, “but not the reputation or the right to maintain privacy over one’s character or relations.
