05 May Singapore Privacy Watchdog Fines Aviva, NTUC Income, AIG
Singapore’s Personal Data Protection Commission (PDPC) had reportedly fined Aviva, NTUC Income Insurance Cooperative and AIG Asia Pacific Insurance $30,000, $10,000 and $9,000 respectively for accidentally disclosing policyholders’ insurance documents to the wrong recipients.
Due to the lapse of the insurance companies, an advisory was released this week to spell out the safeguards that must be put in place when handling documents that contain personal data. These include performing test runs when printing, as well as mandating a second layer of random checks by a supervisor when putting letters in envelopes.
