11 May Signal’s Disappearing Messages May be Retained in macOS
Security researcher Alec Muffett revealed last Tuesday that Signal’s encrypted disappearing messages may be cloned on macOS due to the way the app interacts with macOS’ Notification Center.
Muffett informed Signal desktop app users on Mac to check their notifications bar as messages get copied there and seem to persist even if they are “disappearing” messages which have been deleted/expunged from the app.
While the issue was identified on macOS 10.13.4 using Signal 1.9.0, the app’s latest macOS release, it appears that Signal for iOS is not affected.
