SG Parliament: Police Access to CCTV Footage “Strictly Controlled”

Last Tuesday, Parliamentary Secretary for Home Affairs Amrin Amin assured the public that strict protocols are in place with regards to police camera footage access.

At present, a wide range of data is already being collected by PolCam 2.0 via 5000 CCTVs installed in various locations such as town centres, hawker centers and linkways that lead to MRT stations. PolCam is also able to detect situations such as fights or crowd congregation or dispersal.

A number of privacy concerns had been raised regarding PolCam, but Mr. Amrin reiterated that the cameras were crucial in deterring and dealing with crime or terrorist activity, and that parties found accessing the footage without proper authorization will severely be dealt with.
