04 Jan Security Researcher Cancels Talk on Hacking Apple’s Face ID
Cybersecurity researcher Wish Wu recently cancelled his scheduled discussion at the Black Hat Asia hacking conference in Singapore after being told by his employer Ant Financial, to withdraw.
Wu was supposed to present a talk entitled “Bypass Strong Face ID: Everyone Can Deceive Depth and IR Camera and Algorithms” where he would discuss how to crack Apple’s facial recognition-based security, but Black Hat withdrew the abstract of his talk after Ant Financial pointed out problems with Wu’s research.
Black Hat said it initially agreed to allow Wu after he convinced the review board that he could execute the hack. However, facial recognition expert Anil Jain said found Wu’s claims to be dubious, saying that Apple had invested too much in making its technology practically impossible to hack.
