26 Sep Scientists Create Fake Finger That Can Fool Biometrics
Biometric experts from Michigan State University have been able to create a fake fingertip that can be used to fool biometric security systems.
Made of conductive silicone, silicone thinner and pigments, the imitation digit is able to mimic the optical, mechanical, and electrical properties of a real finger.
It is currently being used to test two types of of fingerprint readers: optical, which uses light to take images, and capacitive, which uses electrical currents to map the fingerprint.
Anil Jain added that the development will help motivate designers to build better readers that use more robust spoof-detection.
