23 Jan Researcher Gets Two Patents for Location Cloaking Technology
Iowa State University researcher Ying Cai was recently awarded two patents for his location-cloaking technology which can limit the information companies can extract from location data collection from mobile phones.
Cai says his technology can provide location information as precise as possible while giving the user sufficient privacy protections. It also allows users to report a location big enough or with sufficient traffic volume so that it would be difficult to track any single individual at any given time.
Cai says this will ensure that the information cannot be linked to people who were there at the time when the location was reported, giving users protection from the time dimension.
