23 Oct Renowned Privacy Authority Resigns from Google’s Toronto Smart City Project
Privacy expert Ann Cavoukian revealed that she had resigned from her post as Sidewalk Labs privacy adviser last Friday.
In her resignation letter, Cavoukian said she was concerned about the Google organization’s digital governance proposals. Specifically, Cavoukian said that she objected to the fact that not all personal data would be de-identified at the source, and that Sidewalk Labs would not be able to control how third parties would handle the data.
She further pointed out that if the data is not de-identified at the source, it would just create another database of personal information that may be put at risk of exposure due to hacking or unauthorized access.
