27 Jan Public Trusts Criminals More with Data Than Government According to Polls
A recent survey by business security provider Tripwire suggested that people are more concerned about the collection of their data by governments and corporations than by online criminals.
The results, which were released on Data Privacy Day, showed that 40% are more worried about corporations handling their data. 27% were more worried about the government, 21% were concerned about identity thieves, while 12% said they were afraid of online stalkers and harassers.
Tripwire VP Tim Erlin said that nearly the entire economy, including social media, loyalty programs, to smart home devices, are conditioning the consumer that their data need not be private. However, he urged consumers to remember that personal data is valuable and that they should not think that it is free to share by default.
