31 Aug Pro-Privacy Search Engine DuckDuckGo Gets $10M in Fresh Funding
Privacy-focused search engine DuckDuckGo recently obtained $10 million in its second round of funding from Canadian pension fund Omers’ VC arm.
It is seen as a significant increase from the $3 million the company raised back in 2011. This seems to reflect Omers Ventures’ sentiments that privacy and security concerns have “risen to the forefront of public consciousness” over the past five years, and that governments are now starting to take real action on data breaches and the public’s demands.
Founder Gabriel Weinberg says that DDG will use the funds to build its staff to deliver the best all-in-one privacy solution, and putting more focus on marketing outside the US.
