Privacy International: Expect Global Risk if Microsoft Loses Data Access Appeal

UK charity Privacy International recently warned that the privacy rights of every person in the world will be endangered should Microsoft loses its appeal regarding the seizure of its data on its Ireland servers by US authorities.

The statement was made in an amicus brief sent to the US Supreme Court where an appeal to a previous ruling that prevented authorities from accessing the emails on the same servers is being heard.

Scarlet Kim, legal officer at Privacy International, said a win for the US government would set the stage for repeated violations of the privacy rights of people all over the world.

It was revealed that separate amicus briefs had been submitted in support of Microsoft from other privacy groups and software industry trade associations.
