Privacy-focused Browser Ghostery Violates New EU Privacy Rules with GDPR Email

Ghostery, the company behind a privacy-focused browser, may have violated the EU’s new privacy rules when it mistakenly exposed the email addresses of other users in its GDPR-themed notification emails.

The recipients were able to see the addresses of other users who were CC’d on the email which were sent in batches of 500. The company realized the mistake last Friday, after which it stopped sending the emails and issued an apology, as well as instructions on how users can delete their accounts.

Even though only email addresses had been exposed, Ghostery also said that they will be reporting the incident to EU authorities.
