14 Feb Privacy Experts Warn Against Using Mobile Phone Number for PayID
Privacy experts have recently voiced their concerns on the new cash transfer and payments system, PayID, saying that users need to be aware of the privacy risks that they may incur when providing their mobile number and other information during signup.
Lockstep Privacy Consultant Stephen Wilson warned consumers to be careful in entering identifiers into the system as there is a possibility that it can be used for a reverse search.
Meanwhile, Australian Privacy Foundation chair David Vaile said that incomplete transactions could lead to the discovery of information that can be used for fraud and identity theft. He also said that it can be the first step in social engineering since users are more likely to trust a caller who knows them by name.
