08 May Privacy Concerns Raised Against Tencent’s Retro Photo App
Privacy concerns were recently raised by a photo editing app by Tencent that has gone viral in China. The app, called “Picture of my Past Life in Chinese”, is said to have collected around 80 million images in the span of only a few days.
Experts cautioned that the app may not be as secure, since it does not ask users for permission before using their camera, as well as the possible risks in sharing their pictures. However, WeChat creator Tencent responded by saying that they do not store the user’s personal data such as the time and place they the photos were uploaded, nor store the edited picture.
