Privacy Concerns Drive Global Information Security Spending

Research firm Gartner said that global spending on information security products and services will reach over $114 billion in 2018 and is likely to grow 8.7% to $124 billion in 2019.

The firm also revealed that in a 2017 survey of 480 respondents from eight countries – Australia, Canada, France, Germany, India, Singapore, the U.K. and the U.S. the top three drivers for security spending were Security Risks, Business Needs, and Industry Changes.

Gartner research director Siddharth Deshpande said that skills shortages and regulatory changes like the EU’s Global Data Protection Regulation (GDPR) are contributing to the growth of the security services market.
