16 Nov Police Scotland ‘Cyber Kiosks’ May Be Illegal
The UK Information Commissioner, senior lawyers, MSPs and the Scottish Human Rights Commission recently voiced their concerns over Police Scotland’s cyber kiosks which have the ability to override passwords.
The equipment, bought from an Israeli company, are scheduled to be deployed next month. However, experts have said that the digital forensic devices which can rapidly search electronic devices for evidence, may be violating privacy laws.
Trials are already being conducted in Edinburgh and Stirling, While the officer in charge of the program said that they are certain that the devices are lawful, they would wait until all concerns are addressed.
