Plex Backtracks on User Data Collection Issue

Earlier this week, multimedia streaming solutions provider Plex was reported to have made changes to their privacy policy that disallows users to opt out from the company’s data collection.

The company said that in order to maintain the functionality of their software, they needed to collect a significantly higher number of usage metrics, which they listed in an explainer. However, the decision to drop the opt-out clause was immediately met with backlash from their customers.

Plex did assure that they will not sell the data they collect from their users, but the new policy, which is set to take effect on September 20, is expected to be in conflict with EU law.
