Orlando Stops Amazon Facial Recognition Program

The city of Orlando, Florida had reportedly stopped testing Amazon’s facial recognition program after receiving complaints from rights groups who argued that the service could be used in ways that violate civil liberties.

The Florida city decided not to continue the pilot program after its contract to use Amazon’s Rekognition service ended.

The Orlando police department said that while they are interested in testing new technology, they also reiterated that it is critical for them to uphold privacy laws and in no way violate the rights of others.
