NPC Urges Travel Firms to Protect Customer Data

Speaking at the 20th Data Protection Officers Assembly (DPO20), NPC Chairman Raymund Liboro urged businesses in the tourism industry to take greater efforts in protecting the personal data of their customers.

He added that there is a need to mitigate risks of data breach as the fast-growing  industry has become increasingly dependent on advances in technology. Taking additional precaution will also give tourists the peace of mind while they are traveling leisurely, as well as strengthen the branding of travel businesses.

The Philippines ranks eighth among countries that have seen the largest growth in travel, with tourism’s contribution to Gross Domestic Product from 2011 to 2017 at US $66.3 billion share in 2017 alone.
