NPC Requires Lawyers, Doctors to Register Data Processing Systems

The National Privacy Commission recently announced that it is extending the deadline for the registration of data processing systems of professionals until July 2, 2018.

The extension is only applicable to professionals such as lawyers or doctors who handle at least 250 employees and process the personal information of at least 1000 individuals. The Data Privacy Act defines a DPS as a structure and procedure used to collect personal data where it is further processed in an information and communications system or relevant filing system.

Privacy Commissioner Raymund Enriquez Liboro reminded that DPS registration is a compliance requirement for Personal Information Controllers (PIC) and Personal Information Processors (PIP).
