30 May NPC Expresses Support for National ID System
The National Privacy Commission recently stated that it is supporting the establishment of the Philippine Identification System (PhilSys), saying that a national ID system will help Filipinos gain access to public and private sector services which require proof of identity.
NPC chief Raymund Enriquez Liboro said that measures to ensure the privacy of personal information upon the implementation of the PhilSys are in place. He added that “the consent of an individual or court orders are some of the requirements needed for any government agencies or other organizations to acquire personal data,”
The PhilSys, which will be a non-transferable card containing a person’s PSN, full name, facial image, date of birth, address and fingerprints of the individual, is intended to integrate and interconnect around 30 redundant government IDs.
