NPC Chair: Transparency Critical to Philippines Fast Track to Digital Economy

Speaking at the Voyager forum last December 7, National Privacy Commission chairman Raymund E. Liboro emphasized the importance of transparency in the data-handling culture of the country.

Liboro said that the Philippines has already fulfilled the indicators of a country transitioning to a full-blown digital economy: increasing internet usage, digital innovations, government support, and digital momentum. However, privacy risks brought by an environment where consumers expose their personal information to businesses across the internet will have to be addressed.

The NPC chief called on data handling organizations to exercise transparency to build consumer trust. He said that the goal of this office is to ensure that an ecosystem of trust is established among consumers and all parties involved in the handling of data.
