06 Jan NPC Asks Government, Companies to Submit Reports on Data Security Incidents
In a recent statement, the National Privacy Commission (NPC) said that the private sector, as well as the government, should submit a report on any security incidents that involve the personal data of their consumers.
The NPC clarified further that it is requiring the organization’s “personal information controllers” (PICs) to submit an annual security incident report until the end of March. The Data Privacy Act defines PICs as an entity who controls the processing of personal data, or instructs someone else to process the data on its behalf.
NPC chair Raymund Enriquez Liboro said that the reports will show the PIC’s level of commitment to protecting the personal data of its customers and employees. He also encouraged them to visit the NPC’s website for further guidance.
