28 Aug NITI Aayog Calls for Data Protection Framework on e-Payments
Last Thursday, India’s NITI Aayog or National Institution for Transforming India called for a comprehensive data protection framework for digital transactions to help curb tax evasion and promote better governance.
The think tank said in its report that India do not have comprehensive privacy or data protection laws covering digital payments, aside from Section 43(A) of the Information Technology Act (ITA) that only offers basic protection.
Additionally, they said that the data generated by the increasing number of digital transactions may be at risk of being sold, and that the consequences of this will be unpredictable.
