17 Aug New Tencent Research Shows Increasing Chinese Awareness on Privacy Issues
A recent report from Penguin Intelligence, Tencent’s research arm, suggests that the Chinese are increasingly showing concern on privacy-related issues.
Despite the popular notion that Chinese netizens do not value their privacy, the data from the study says that 35% of 1,285 users said that they are constantly concerned over data leaks, while 60.6% said that they worry about the problem occasionally. Only 4% said that they do not care about it at all.
88.1% of Chinese online users say that they prefer to log in via third-party accounts such as QQ, WeChat, and Weibo because of the extra layer of security protection.
However, most also said that they prefer to use mobile phones over email as it is a faster and more convenient way of registering.
