New Study Says Third of HR Teams Fail to Comply with Personal Data Retention Periods

According to a new study by HR solutions provider CIPHR, as much as a third of HR teams in the UK fail to delete data after the expiration of their personal data retention periods.

However, 87 percent confidently said that their processes are ‘fully compliant’ with the regulations. 83 percent of the 137 UK HR professionals who responded said they have set retention periods for employee, leaver and candidate data, but 69 percent said the had put these policies into practice and actually deleted data upon the expiration of their retention periods.

Meanwhile, only 31 percent said they had enabled self-service access to personal data for employees in response to the GDPR. The percentage was even lower for job applicants at 7 percent and former staff at 4 percent.
