New Shanghai Data Regulation Bans Release of Trade Secrets, Infringement of Personal Privacy

Shanghai released a regulation on public data management banning the disclosure of commercial secrets and personal privacy infringements which took effect this week.

In the past, the collection, use and sharing of public data was in legal limbo which raised the public’s concerns over the leakage of business secrets and damage to personal privacy.

Tang Zhiping, secretary-general of Shanghai government, confirmed at a government press conference last Tuesday that the new rule will standardize the process of data collection, management, sharing, usage and privacy.
