15 Sep New Security Bug Affects Almost All Modern Computers
Cybersecurity company F-Secure said this week that a new firmware bug present in almost all modern PC’s and Mac’s can be used by attackers to steal sensitive data even encrypted ones.
F-Secure principal security consultant Olle Segerdahl said that the new attack is built on the traditional cold boot attack. Segerdahl and his colleague Pasi Saarinen said that they have found a way to disable the overwriting process when a device is powered down to scramble the data from being read.
Segerdahl also said that in nearly all cases they were still able to steal data from disks protected by encryption software such as BitLocker and FileVault.
